Based in what was once a popular West Hampstead fishmongers is a real gem of a London restaurant – The Wet Fish Café, an eclectic eatery whose fabulous food and welcoming atmosphere is a big hit amongst the locals. Although the name would imply fish restaurant, The Wet Fish Café is so much more than that. The menu does of course offer some superb fish and seafood dishes such as the delectable sea bream with broad beans and potatoes or the tasty grey mullet stew but meat eaters and vegetarians are well catered for too. The Welsh lamb rump with wild garlic mash, spring pea purée and rosemary jus or the rib eye with broccoli, cauliflower purée and red wine jus are a carnivore’s delight and the chargrilled asparagus with a cassoulet of wild mushrooms, leeks and white beans will make any vegetarian go weak at the knees. If you fancy sharing, the tapas platters are divine- grilled chorizo, prawns, caramelised red onions, marinated olives, honeyed figs, smoked cheddar, apricots and walnut bread is just example. Art Deco wall tiles and a warm atmosphere as well as great cocktails and some soothing jazzy sounds at The Wet Fish Café attract an arty West Hampstead crowd and lunchtimes are very busy with free wifi making the place ideal for working lunches.
