Overlooking the lovely bowling green in the middle of Finsbury Circus Gardens, The Pavilion is a complete retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city just steps away. The ground floor plays host to the wine bar which is always packed out at lunchtimes and early evenings with the local working crowd enjoying a drink and snack overlooking the gardens, but downstairs there is a much more relaxing restaurant. Fresh flowers are placed on every table and the neutral colours give off a calming vibe. Classic British fare is served where you could start with something like the wild mushroom, smoked camembert and redcurrant vol-au-vent followed by fish pie and finished off with russet apple and pear crumble. It really is a pleasant surprise to find this splendid British restaurant and bar overlooking a kind of village green in the heart of the city, but that is exactly what it is.
