Perched along Aldersgate Street in the City of London, The English Pig restaurant promises an all British affair. This fabulous Barbican eatery is the brainchild of eccentric Chef Johnnie Mountain, whose focus is on locally sourced, sustainable produce. The restaurant even boasts its very own hand reared pigs, used to produce signature dishes such as the amazing 21 hour slow cooked roast belly of pork. The menu has been kept simple and short, meaning that ingredients are as fresh as can be and always seasonal. Tuck into starters such as chargrilled asparagus with fried duck egg and parmesan or puy lentils with grilled chorizo followed by mains like sea bass with ratte potatoes, sunblush tomatoes and sauce vierge or chargrilled aged rib eye with spinach, mash and veal jus. The vibe is lively, with a stylish setting featuring wooden furnishings and flooring and neutral tones. The walls adorned with huge photographic prints of the pigs is a great touch. The English Pig demonstrates just how fantastic British food can be and has proved to be a big hit in this part of the City.
