Housed under the railway arches of Waterloo Station, The Archduke is something of a legend in London, being the very first restaurant and wine bar to open on the Southbank back in 1979. Recently revamped by the new owners, The Archduke is a unique venue, serving a delicious Modern European menu whilst offering its infamous Jazz nights 6 days a week. The Archduke boasts an award winning architecture, with its modern glass frontage and sleek modern furnishings sitting in contrast to the arched brick walls and really is considered somewhat of a landmark in this part of London. The venue attracts a varied clientele, from tourists and visitors passing through the station or on their way to the nearby National Film Theatre, National Theatre, London Eye or IMAX to London’s jazz fans, there to soak up the ambience and take in the music. The menu serves up a tasty array of Modern Euro dishes such as the roasted spring chicken with garlic and herbs and hand cut fries and salad or the grilled salmon with turmeric potatoes, lemon and dill and crème fraiche. There is a great selection of fine steaks and burger too. The Archduke is an absolute legend on the Southbank and long may it remain so!
