South Kensington is home to London’s cool Scandinavian eatery Madsen Restaurant, an exciting venture by fledgling restaurateur Charlotte Madsen. Madsen Restaurant oozes Scandi style with plenty of clean lines and blond wood and white washed walls. Iconic PH5 lamps by Poul Henningsen add an extra slice of style. This cool restaurant has recently been awarded its first AA Rosette and it’s easy to see why. The menu features a great selection of Scandinavian favourites such as herring platters, pan fried plaice with a jug of melted butter and thick fried bacon slices with parsley, béchamel sauce and pickled beetroot. The main attraction on the menu at lunchtimes is the amazing Smørrebrød – a Danish open sandwich made with rye bread and toppings such as smoked salmon and dill mayonnaise or roast pork and red cabbage. The £25 smörgåsbord buffet always draws in a busy crowd, particularly on sunny days when it can be enjoyed on the pretty patio. Madsen Restaurant has proved to be quite a hit in South Kensington, pulling in a good mix of hungry Scandi tourists and ex-pats as well as curious London foodies, eager to sample the delights of Sweden, Denmark and the likes.
