Type of cuisine: Italian

Average price: £30.00     Nearest tube: South Kensington

With a sleek dining room and pretty al fresco terrace, Il Giardino brings a taste of modern Italy to Chelsea

Backing onto the pretty Chelsea Garden Centre just off the King’s Road in London, Il Giardino is a sleek Italian restaurant. Just steps away from the upmarket shops and boutiques of Chelsea, ll Giardino boasts a stylish and contemporary dining room decked out in minimalist style. A monochrome colourscheme with pretty potted palms and framed photos set the scene inside the restaurant whilst the al fresco terrace has a sunny Mediterranean feel with wicker seating and white linen topped tables. The modern Italian menu at Il Giardino is impressive, offering some superb dishes such as deep fried courgette flowers filled with anchovies and mozzarella; pasta filled with duck in a wild mushroom sauce; pan fried lamb chop served with crushed potatoes, pancetta and spring onions and monkfish wrapped in pancetta with Savoy cabbage and pepper sauce. As for the wine list, expect a fine selection of organic and bio dynamic wines. Il Giardino fits in perfectly with its Chelsea location, attracting a good mix of business types and local Sloanes yet maintains a real neighbourhood restaurant feel.
