Opened in April 2008, Hix Oyster & Chop House can be found just a stone’s throw from London’s Smithfield market and is the brainchild of acclaimed British Chef Mark Hix. Successfully attempting to evoke the ambiance of London’s old oyster and chop houses, this fantastic British restaurant hits all the right notes. A stunning long marbled and wooden oyster bar and original wood flooring and panelling give the place a truly authentic feel and modern touches such as an oyster service bar in the restaurant where you can watch them being prepared adds a special touch. Head Chef Stuart Tattersall takes care of the kitchen and produces the most incredible British cuisine. The menu offers a very fine assortment of oysters as well as a great selection of chops, cutlets and steaks. Try the Somerset Barnsley lamb chop with grilled kidney and rosemary or Hanger steak with baked bone marrow. There are some exquisite fish dishes to sample too such as deep fried skate knobs with piquant caper mayonnaise. The wine list features some exciting offerings and beers are best of British. Hix has definitely managed to bring back the days of old in this magnificent and very British restaurant.
