Fortnum & Mason St James’s Restaurant is the wonderfully formal fine dining restaurant situated in London’s famous department store Fortnum & Mason. Steeped in British tradition, Fortnum & Mason is a London landmark and the restaurant St James’s is a charming representative of such a highly reputed establishment. Open for lunch only as well as afternoon tea, the St James’s Restaurant is an elegant and very refined dining room where smart dress is obligatory. Located on the 4th floor of Fortnum & Mason, it has recently seen a refurbishment to mark the store’s tercentenary. The Table d’hôte menu is a celebration of fine British cooking with strong emphasis on seasonal ingredients of the highest quality. Lunch is at a fixed price and is surprisingly good value for money for such an upmarket restaurant with two courses coming in at just £28.00 and three for £36.00. Start with something like seared scallops with young fennel and sauce vierge followed by mains like Gossnargh chicken with potato purée and truffled baby leeks or best end of lamb with courgette flower and cous cous with a spiced velouté.Delightful desserts like chilled elderflower and lemon cream with lavender biscuits end a more than memorable dining experience. Sundays play host to a more than fabulous Sunday roast complete with a carving trolley. Fortnum & Mason’s St James’s Restaurant is every inch the elegant and classic eatery it should be and the British menu is divine.
