Forming part of the famous London jazz venue The Forge in Camden, Caponata is a superb Italian restaurant, osteria and bar specialising in Sicilian cuisine. Set out over two floors, the restaurant is a striking space with a smart minimalist style where plenty of glass allows floods of natural light to enter and one of the interior walls is covered with creeping greenery. Downstairs is the more casual osteria and bar area where lighter bites are served such as porchetta pork belly with spices and toasted bread or homemade Sicilian fennel sausage. Upstairs is the more formal restaurant where diners are treated to a menu full of the delights of Southern Italy. Start with seared scallops with turnip mousse and watercress pesto for example followed by exquisite pasta dishes such as linguine with Palourde clams and white crab meat. Pan fried halibut fillet with aubergine pesto, green beans and crispy garlic is just too good to resist and vegetarians will love the vegetable and robiola cheese tart on a light tomato sauce with rocket leaves. The desert list is innovative and original with the mango ravioli filled with saffron and orange and served with chocolate gelato simply too delicious to miss. Although part of The Forge, Caponata attracts its own clientele with the sheer quality of its food.
