Cantaloupe restaurant features a selection of dishes across its extensive food menu, packed with modern Mediterranean and Spanish flavours

Cantaloupe restaurant bar first opened its doors on 30th November 1995 and was the first bar/restaurant in the Shoreditch area. It has since been firmly part of the Shoreditch furniture in this fantastic part of London, offering superb food in a laid back restaurant/bar atmosphere. Formerly a warehouse, Cantaloupe has a classic rough edge to it with bare brick walls and heavy wooden dining tables, which fill up quickly every night of the week. Cantaloupe's menus is broadly split into 2 sections: authentic Spanish tapas, perfect for a light lunch or appetizer with drinks and it's fantastic Mediterranean & South American street food (food you can buy at the streetside stalls, or small roadside eateries serving typical local dishes). Dishes might include beef empanaditas - small baked pastries filled with chilli beef, olives and coriander with sour cream and salsa fresca or croquetas de jamon - salt-cured Spanish serrano ham and parsley cakes to start, followed by Moqueca - Brazilian casserole of king prawns, calamari, mussels, chicken, peppers, tomatoes and cashew nuts in coconut milk with Moros y Cristianos or Piquillo peppers stuffed with wild mushrooms, goats cheese, pinenuts, paella rice and chargrilled asparagus. If however, it's a much meatier affair you're after, Cantaloupe's 'pièce de résistance' is it's fabulous Argentinian steak section including mouth-watering bife de chorizo or bife de lomo with a choice of garlic butter, salsa fresca or chimi-churri salsa. All backed up with a great wine list, friendly service and reasonable prices, it's easy to see why Cantaloupe has been a Shoreditch favourite for so long.
