Camino is a new Spanish bar and restaurant in London's King's Cross. Though not traditionally known as an area for top cuisine, Camino sits in a secluded courtyard square off the main road, making it perfect for summer evening drinks. Camino means road, way, or path, and the restaurant is all about celebrating the range of food and drink available across the breadth of Spain. Even the menu is a fold-out map, with dishes dotted across the regions they originate from, rather than simply listed. Camino combines exposed wooden floors & brick & cork walls with leather chairs, bold artwork & a glass domed roof, creating a laidback & comfortable feel. All food is seasonal and fresh, with particular attention spent on the origin of ingredients. Camino's menu is concise, with tapas-style starters and main dishes all being cooked on the authentic Spanish grill. The fish at Camino is wild and caught off the coast of Cornwall, while meats and eggs are free range and bought from hand-picked farms, and although there are options for all, Camino is a great stop for meat lovers. The steaks are a real speciality, but the grilled fish dishes are equally delicious. With the bar spilling out into the courtyard, Camino is also a great restaurant for drinks before or after dinner.

The restaurant was recommended by a friend that is a lunch time regular. We booked a table for two online for dinner and asked if they could give us a quiet spot as I was with my date. The gave us a table by the window with a candle, so the ambiance was great! The food was delicious, I'm a meat lover and I ordered the chuleton. I ordered rare and it was one of the first times in London that I had a proper rare steak! My date ordered the pulpo, which is octopus with potatoes. It was tasty, but a little bit bland. The olive oil and the paprika season were excellent tho! I don't understand much of wine but the waiter (really friendly and wine knowledgeable, I must say!) recommended El Gordito, which was spot on and with a reasonable price. After the dinner we went for some drinks on the bar and the music was really good, too bad that I don't know the name of the DJ playing. Really good food and really friendly service. I definetly reccomend to all: couples, group of friends night out or happy hour with co-workers.

Sarah Cross
