Sophisticated Italian dining at Mayfair’s Apsleys Restaurant in the chic Lanesborough Hotel

 

The Lanesborough Hotel in London’s Mayfair plays host to the newly relaunched Apsleys restaurant, the first restaurant outside Italy created by the renowned chef Heinz Beck, holder of 3 Michelin stars at the La Pergola restaurant in Rome. The traditional conservatory has now been transformed into a beautifully elegant Italian restaurant resplendent with ornate chandeliers and crisp white tablecloths. Named after the Duke of Wellington’s old home Apsley House, Apsleys produces the finest Italian fare made from the best ingredients available, most of which is imported direct from Italy. Executive Chef Massimilliano Blasone, formerly of Castello Banfi in Tuscany, has created a stunning menu with starters such as foie gras terrine with lentils and balsamic ice cream or artichoke cream with lobster and liquorice. The fresh pasta is divine with the likes of rabbit ravioli with asparagus and pistachio or monkfish spaghetti with red peppers and courgettes. For the main course try the amazing olive crusted turbot with vegetable caponata or slow braised veal cheek on apple purée with salsify. The wine list is predominately Italian with a few good French references thrown in and the staff are well clued up and more than happy to assist with your selection. Absolutely amazing. There are not many restaurants of this standard in the UK. The best I have had the pleasure to experience. We took a client and were all bowled over by the 7 course tasting menu with wine. First class.
