About this restaurant
From the moment you are ushered through the doors by the top-hat wearing attendant, J Sheekey's restaurant impresses you. Fish is their speciality, but Sheekey's also provide vegetarian and vegan menus as well. In 1896 a seafood market stall-holder, Josef Sheekey, was granted permission from Lord Salisbury to serve fish and seafood in his new building development in St Martin's Court. Upon the condition that he supplied meals to his lordship's private post-theatre dinner parties, J. Sheekey, the restaurant, was born. Originally a small oyster bar, the restaurant grew in size and reputation through the 1950s and 1960s, as it embraced the adjoining properties and attracted the discerning fashionable diners of the day. The restaurant was subsequently owned by the Scott's Group until 1993 when it declined into bankruptcy and disrepair. It was rescued and relaunched by Caprice Holdings in 1998 and is now considered as one of London’s finest fish restaurants. The menu at J Sheekey is extensive and the freshness and quality of all ingredients is second to none. The adjoining oyster bar is a fabulous space too, with a beautiful horseshoe shaped bar serving the finest champagne and oysters as well as a variety of fruits de mer. J Sheekey provides a faultless restaurant dining experience which makes it one of the most popular London restaurants, so booking a table well in advance is always advised.

Simply MAGNIFICENT! Suculent seafood, wonderful ambiance and the staff welcomed my daughter and I to the table as if we were being invited as guest to their own personal family table. As New Yorkers, this was a true delight...THANKS SO MUCH! We'll be back.***Still searching for the NY location...

We dined at the restaurant on Friday as my birthday treat. We turned up without having booked not realising that we were at such a renowned establishment. The receptionist was very welcoming and found us a table. The service was spot on helpful but not obtrusive and the food superb. The skate cheeks, cod with chorizo and the fish curry were wonderful. A slight problem when a glass of wine was knocked over was resoved very professionally by Hamish. A great start to a super evening

As someone who eats out five nights a week, and has been doing so for about twenty years, I have no hesitation in recommending Sheekey's as the top fish restaurant in London. The service is always first rate (without being overstarched), the cooking is consistently excellent and the atmosphere makes one reluctant to leave. When bad Englishmen die they go to heaven when good Englishmen die they must surely go to Sheekey's. But don't wait until then - go today!
